In the course of the year 2010, STAEDTLER is going to switch to certified wood for its entire range of "Made in Germany" wood-cased pencils.

The certification underlines STAEDTLER's commitment to the environment and its responsible use of indispensable wood raw materials and composites.

We have adopted the ambitious standard of producing products that are not only especially environmentally compatible but, above all, also highly impressive thanks to their efficiency and high user benefit.

Particular importance is attached to longevity – because something that lasts and lasts doesn’t have to be replaced for a long time.

We call this perfect interaction between ecology and efficiency: "efficient for ecology" by STAEDTLER.

STAEDTLER has Chain of Custody (CoC) certification in accordance with FSC and PEFC!

"Efficient for ecology" by STAEDTLER takes the entire ecological value chain into consideration. We examine the effects every phase of a product's life has on the environment and continually strive to make improvements.

As a result, STAEDTLER Mars GmbH & Co. KG has been granted Chain of Custody certification in accordance with valid FSC and PEFC standards for the production and trade of wood-cased pencils.

But what do the terms PEFC and FSC actually mean?

Independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisations are behind both the PEFC and FSC certificates.

PEFC is the abbreviation for "Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes".

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) was initiated in 1990 by representatives from human rights and environmental organisations and a group of traders and manufacturing companies.

Both the FSC and PEFC advocate an environmentally appropriate, socially responsible and economically viable use of forests.
